First sustainable traffic sign in Krimpen

Since today, the first sustainable traffic sign has been in place in Krimpen. Alderman John Janson of Traffic and Transport and Wubbo Tempel of Sustainability unveiled it. With traffic signs made of recycled plastic, we are making Krimpen’s outdoor space one step more sustainable.

Traffic sign made of recycled plastic
Until now, all traffic signs in Krimpen were made of aluminum. From now on, that will be recycled plastic. Made from old plastic stuff. For example, from an old car bumper or a wheelie bin. All the plastic comes from the Netherlands and that’s where the signs are made. You can see the difference especially at the back of the sign.

Making the sustainable traffic signs costs 70% less CO² than aluminum signs. Also, the plastic can be completely reused later. You can see from the back of the road sign that it is made of plastic.

Step by step replacement
We are starting in the Oud Krimpen neighborhood to replace traffic signs. The municipality first looks at which signs need replacing. Of course, we replace traffic signs only when necessary. This may be due to age or vandalism, for example. In this way, we are making Krimpen aan den IJssel more sustainable step by step.
